The Farmhouse offers a challenge to die to self and focus on our primary calling to love God above all else and to love others more than ourselves. As the body of Christ we must necessarily live in communion, which is created through mutual love and service. To this end, The Farmhouse offers a variety of retreat options that can easily be tailored to any circumstance or age group. The ministry of The Farmhouse is based on ideas of monastic community and the practice of spiritual disciplines. The work of The Farmhouse is to call Christians to seek Christ alone, to love God, and to love neighbor. The Farmhouse is a place to rest. The pace of the day made real conversation possible. It also made naps possible, which the teens in my youth group relished. They came so exhausted by the demands on their lives. It also is a place where grace can be lived out. The kids who can't keep up the pace in ordinary academic, athletic or social situations are included at the Farmhouse, because these measures of success have no relevance to the monastic life. Everyone feels more free, and more loved, and more human.

For many people, time at The Farmhouse is their first exposure to liturgical prayer and meditation, which are practices that greatly aid in spiritual development and which complement their current spiritual practices.
